Best School in Faridabad

If you are working as a teacher in a pre-primary school in greater Faridabad (or anywhere else) and you want to improve the reading skills of your students, then this article would be a great help for you. In this article we will share with you some points on how focusing on multisensory activities among students can improve their reading skills significantly. You will find many top schools in Faridabad and other parts of the country use these activities successfully to improve the overall learning and reading skills of their students.

You may wonder how multisensory activities can play any role in improving the reading skills of your students?

To get an answer to this question you have to realise that the reading lessons involve multiple sense organs of our body and if you train your students to use all of these, then it can significantly improve the reading skills of your students. Many times, we will see that a child is not able to respond well or recall information in its traditional sense. In such a situation we have to think about how our brain receives information. We know that our five senses that include sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing send continuous information to our brain, which then recognises the sensations initiate behaviours, and also store memories.

As a teacher, you will see that when you encourage your students to do multisensory activities it would not only reinforce their strengths but also significantly reduce their weaknesses. As a pre-primary teacher, you can use different multisensory activities as a part of your literacy instruction. The amazing thing about these activities is that they can benefit anyone who tries them and they can be used daily in your classroom. If you want these activities to succeed, then make sure that the students use more than one sense at a time to get the best results. Just relying on the visual part is not sufficient, you have to encourage the students to use multiple senses in combination, which will reinforce their strengths and also help them overcome their weaknesses.

Sight: The teachers should try to stimulate the sense organ in the class with the help of word walls, big books, anchor charts, flashcards, or even graphic organisers. The students can use different letter tiles to write a word.

Hearing: This is another important sense organ that you can use to let your students learn new words by saying them in singing rhyming songs or even letting the students participate in read-aloud.

Touch: The students can use a raised letter tiles to spell words or write letters with kinetic sand or play dough.

Smell: The students can use scented shaving creams or smelly markers to form letters. For example, if a marker smells like strawberry, then they can associate the letter S with that marker. In this way, the teacher can use different smelly stickers to associate different words in the mind of a student.

Taste: You can give the students letter-shaped crackers or cookies so that they can associate a letter with a particular taste, which can help them to memorise it much better.
